Hymn for the Weekend produced by the Coldplay and it’s an extremely popular song pulling in over 1.7B views on YouTube alone and 1B+ on all streaming platforms therefore making it

a very popular song. The specific genre it falls under is Pop Rock, similarly to Hall of Fame hence the choice of Hymn for the Weekend. Therefore, analysing this music video will allow me to gather ideas for my music video since the demographics and target audience match up very well.



First of all, lets establish the purpose of the music video which was created in order to raise awareness to and celebrate Indian culture, specifically its residents and music. The opening shot is a sequence of shots establishing the scenery. These shots are cinematic and of high quality, setting the scene.

Music Video at the core are to sell and present the artist(s), due to being in a consumerist society, and therefore they need to be sold. Therefore, as the music begins we see both our artists introduced in the setting of the video. This could imply that the artists are positioning themselves with the people and placing themselves on the same level showing respect and humbleness towards the culture.


This long tracking shot of Chris Martin shows him among the people of India. This celebration is a traditional celebration of love and diversity. This is amplified by the lyrics of the song, which talk about romance and love. This therefore portrays the ideology of
